2020: a year of uncertainty that concluded with another U-turn which abruptly cancelled Christmas. The sense of hope and happiness that once came with the festive season soon disappeared. Families were unable to connect. Young ones were devastated. And the country went back into losing all hope. London has the highest rate of child poverty of any English region and our thoughts went out to the 700,000 children living under the poverty line who would not receive any presents this Christmas. Sponsored by ELBA and in collaboration with Wapping Youth Fc, we were given 60 presents to give out to children, in London. Toys ranging from Legos, to headphones, cricket sets to footballs. Wrapped and delivered door to door by our wonderful volunteers. We encouraged our community to submit inspiring individuals living in a low-income household who we could celebrate. We waited for 60 nominations on Instagram and presented them all with a gift. It was incredible to see massive smiles on little faces and bring a little bit of Christmas spirit this lockdown. “Thank you for suspiring me and giving me happiness this holiday! 2020 has been a year to remember, not just due to Covid-19. Amidst the chaos of the pandemic a community came together during the summer to show togetherness, resilience and perseverance. AIP Sports Academy and Wapping Youth FC, in partnership with StreetGames delivered 12 summer camps throughout the Borough of Tower Hamlets. The summer camps in total were outstandingly attended by more than 500 young people! A whopping 6400 meals were provided and over 100 hours of healthy/nutritional workshops were delivered. This video highlights the amazing work that went in to delivering these summer camps whilst also bringing to attention an important topic - free school meals for children. Let us come together to join Marcus Rashford's tremendous campaign in extending free school meal vouchers for children!
